Infertility and Chiropractic

At first glance, most people don’t see the connection between chiropractic care and fertility. However, chiropractic care prior to conception promotes a more regular menstrual cycle and optimal uterine function. It prepares the body to be strong, supple and as balanced as possible to carry the pregnancy. Many infertile couples have been helped by restoring proper nerve supply to reproductive organs.

Pregnancy and Chiropractic

More pregnant women everyday are discovering and enjoying the benefits of a chiropractic lifestyle. They carry their pregnancy with more comfort. And research is now showing that labor times for women under chiropractic care are often reduced by more than a third and the need for painkillers during labor is reduced by half.

Chiropractors are able to release stress on the pregnant woman’s pelvis and cause relaxation to the uterus so the baby will turn naturally. The Webster Breech Technique is up to 94% successful in turning babies in-utero so they can be delivered naturally and easily.

Children and Chiropractic

We now know that most people will get their first subluxation at birth. According to Abraham Towbin, M.D. from Harvard Medical School, “during the final extraction of the fetus (baby), mechanical stress- even the application of standard orthodox procedures may prove intolerable to the fetus.” Furthermore, Dr. Towbin states, “Spinal cord and brainstem injuries often occur during the process of birth, but frequently escape diagnosis. …there may be lasting neurological defects.”

Dr. Arpod DeNagy of the Rockefeller Institute recommends, “Chiropractic care should begin at birth on a preventative basis.” In a supporting study, a group of M.D.’s found that 80% of children’s nerve systems are not in balance and concluded that, “all newborns should have their spines checked by chiropractors.”

This problem of spinal damage that happens to an infant because of the delivery process is known as Traumatic Birth Syndrome (TBS). Sometimes TBS children will have different types of symptoms like colic, a lowered resistance to infections, particularly those of the ear, nose and throat and/or developmental problems. The unlucky ones don’t even know something is wrong! This is because nerve root compression (from subluxation) can exist without pain and symptoms and the damage from TBS can last a lifetime. According to a Boston University pathologist, “The real cause of our demise is not diseases, but the spinal stress that happens at birth. This robs us of our innate potential for a very long, very healthy and very happy life.”

“I feel that chiropractors correctly stress the importance of the spine to general health of mind and body, a fact often underrated by most medical doctors,” observes Andrew Weil, M.D.

According to Ronald Pero, Ph.D., subluxations reduce the genetic potential of the human species. Subluxations interfere with internal organ function, internal temperature regulation and the body’s immune response in the production of antibacterial and anti-viral agents to fight infection.

Bill Moyers in his book Healing and the Mind refers to research that showed if nerves were removed from the immune organs, “you virtually stopped the immune responses in their tracks.” Clearly, properly functioning nerves are vital for immune function. Regular chiropractic care improves immune function by 200% – 400% and brain function as well. In regard to these studies, Dr. Pero stated that, “Chiropractic is the only single event that they have been able to find that produces these kinds of changes…” It is vital to keep our loved ones free from subluxations for life, if we want our life and health to live up to our optimum genetic potential. Parents are relieved to know adjustments to correct subluxations, even on newborns, are extremely gentle and safe, over 5000 times safer than aspirin.

Adults and Chiropractic

Current research now tells us that it is not so much our genes that will determine our health, but the expression of those genes, which is largely dependent on our lifestyle choices of food, water, oxygen and nerve function. We must have high quality in each of these “essentials” to life and health. If these essentials are not cared for regularly, it is no accident that a problem develops.

Most health problems in America today are due to lifestyle choices, heart disease from poor diet, lung cancer from smoking, tooth and/or spinal decay from neglect, etc. Regardless of your beliefs, “That won’t happen to me,” you will reap what you sow.

“Our way of life is related to our way of death.”-The Framingham Study, Harvard University

Conditions that result from bad habits take years to develop and typically, symptoms appear only after extensive damage has already been done. The more the impact of your lifestyle choices accumulate on your body (good or bad), the more it will take to reverse them. And of course, the only way to truly fix a problem that has developed from our lifestyle is to change the lifestyle and not by covering the symptoms with drugs or surgery. If you develop chest pain as a consequence of heart disease from a poor diet, do you only change your diet until the chest pain goes away? Do you really think a pill can erase a lifetime of bad habits?

A subluxated spine is similar. Decay will result from years of neglect and/or abuse often with pain and symptoms only appearing in the later more advanced stages of this process. Should you only care for your spine until the pain goes away? Should you wait for pain to show up? What phase of decay are you in and what will you do when your spine wears out? It’s irreplaceable! To minimize the effects of subluxations, avoid the inevitable spinal decay and the related problems from them, a lifestyle must include chiropractic care for proper spinal hygiene.

It is extremely important to understand that all health conditions begin with no symptoms. This reason alone exposes why we should not base our health on how we feel. If we approach our health in this fashion, the question is no longer “if” we will develop a problem, but “when and what kind”. The risks are simply too great with this limited view of health.

“A problem cannot be solved with the same level of thinking that created it.”-Albert Einstein

If you base your health and care only on how you feel, you are developing problems that cannot be fixed by doing only that which makes you feel better. Health is not how you are feeling, it is how you are functioning. Symptom-based care will only allow the underlying problem to become more severe in nature. Consequently, health can only be achieved through function-based care, the type of care we offer!

Seniors and Chiropractic

As we grow older, our concerns turn towards being able to enjoy our retirement years and having a high quality of life. More and more people are realizing they that they don’t want to be taking multiple medications like most seniors and many wonder how they will afford the skyrocketing costs of these pills. Many are paying a very high price for their “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” attitude. Seniors under chiropractic care take far fewer medications, can be independent longer and significantly reduce the chances of ending up in the hospital or a nursing home.
